Born to parents Surendra and Sunanda Shetty on February 2, 1979, Shamita Shetty soon grew up to become a hot and sexy Indian actress. She is the younger sister of famous Indian actress and Celebrity Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty. She was born in a traditional close-knit family that hails from the Bunt community of Mangalore. Her parents are manufacturers of tamper-proof caps for the pharmaceutical industry and her native language is Tulu. She attended St Anthony's Girls High School in Chembur, Mumbai and later graduated from Sydenham College.

It has also been reposted that she was dropped from 11th standard in Sydenham College to pursue a diploma course in fashion designing. Shamita has always seen her sister’s career blooming in Indian Cinema and she has always admired her and wanted to follow her footsteps. She has the beauty and talent to establish herself in the film industry and she got ample of support from her family. She decided to make a mark and stepped out and luckily was approached for a big budget Bollywood film Mohabbatein.
